Forward and back basic
This step is the main step used in Salsa when dancing on the 1 count. Once you have learnt this step you will then learn variations of this step and can always revert back to a basic after your variation.
Standard Forward and back basic for a Beginner
Forward Basic
Start with Feet together weight on the right foot.
1. Left Foot steps forward (small step)
2. Weight returns to Right Foot (recover)
3. Left foot is placed next to Right Foot in the HOME position
4. Hold no foot movement occurs although there is a weight transference over to the Left Foot which creates natural hip action.
Back Basic
5. Right Foot steps back (small step)
6. Weight returns to Left Foot (recover)
7. Left foot is placed next to Leftt Foot in the HOME position
8. Hold no foot movement occurs although there is a weight transference over to the Right Foot which creates natural hip action.
Progressive Forward and back basic.
Once you have learnt the basic step you can then use a progressive basic which is more natural and does not have the
sharp feel to it that a basic has.
To do this you simply change count 3 & 7 where instead of closing feet together you leave them slightly staggered apart.
Step 3. Your Left foot would step back slightly further than the Right Foot around a half of a step
Step 7. Your Right Foot would step forward slightly ahead of the Left Foot around a half of a step |
